Gaming Galore: Top Video Games to Play Right Now

There is an overwhelming number of great video games to choose from. And choosing the best ones is subjective, as one person’s gaming delight could be another’s dread.

Upgrade your internet connection with fiber optic speed, unleashing lightning-fast gameplay on your favorite gaming consoles and devices!

1. Horizon Zero Dawn

The first in the Horizon series from Guerrilla Games, this action role-playing game focuses on Aloy, a huntress in a world overrun by mechanical creatures. Aloy must battle machines across a wide range of terrains, from lush grasslands to desolate urban landscapes that were once bustling with life. As she progresses, her skill tree unlocks new abilities that help her fend off the machines and uncover the truth of her past.

Unlike many open-world video games, Horizon Zero Dawn features day and night cycles that change the tone of the world from dangerous to relaxing as time passes. The game’s world is also dense and varied, with a number of different biomes to explore, as well as a seamless transition between them thanks to no loading screens.

FromSoftware is a studio that knows how to create epic settings for their games, from the decaying gothic ramparts of Dark Souls to the condemned Victorian hellscape of Bloodborne. Elden Ring expands on the studio’s tried-and-true formula by turning The Lands Between into a clockwork universe packed with furtive secrets and ecclesiastic lore. The result is a massive sandbox that takes dozens of hours to explore and a series of memorable encounters. This is a must-play for anyone that enjoys FromSoftware’s signature style of gameplay and engrossing story.

2. Sifu

When you first begin playing Sifu, it is an exhilarating experience. You walk into a martial arts school and kill everybody you encounter as the revenge-seeking character in one of the strongest opening scenes I’ve seen this year. Throughout the rest of its short duration, Sifu has players fending off enemies with a mix of blocking, parrying, kicking, and throwing moves while executing intricate combinations to build up the game’s Structure meter to perform flashy takedowns. Flawlessly navigating these battles takes incredible precision and strict timing requirements, with the slightest slip up exposing your character to an enemy attack. While you do earn a small sliver of health back by performing these advanced takedowns, Sifu’s enemies hit hard and eat up a significant portion of your character’s health bar in the process.

Sifu is a satisfying challenge for those with the skills to pull it off, and it does have an incredibly robust Skill Tree where you can spend XP on abilities like adding new combos or catching projectiles out of midair, but there’s still a huge learning curve to mastering all these moves. And without an optional difficulty scale, the game can feel like a painful grind for those who aren’t good at this type of action-based gameplay.

Sifu is a one-of-a-kind rogue-like that marries an engaging setup and sublime combat mechanics into a one of the more compelling experiences of the year. But it could have used more modes to add variety and further encourage progression beyond the campaign, which feels too brief for this style of game.

3. Elden Ring

2022 saw the arrival of this masterpiece from FromSoftware that captivated and united gaming audiences. It drew the attention of players from all over, appealing to those who were already devoted fans of their punishing Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne games, as well as those who simply enjoyed open world RPGs, and lovers of epic fantasy and mythology.

The story revolves around a dying world that’s being brought back to life through the player character, an undead Tarnished who was chosen by a goddess to restore the Elden Ring and become lord of the Lands Between. This is not an easy task. It’s a game that’s renowned for its difficulty and requires a strong will to persevere in spite of all the crushing trials.

What makes Elden Ring so unique is that it’s the first FromSoftware title to draw in a large crowd of mainstream gamers. The pedigree of the studio and the fact that George R.R. Martin of A Song of Ice and Fire fame helped to write the game’s lore and background story certainly built up expectations among many.

Elden Ring’s gameplay consists of exploring a vast open world while fighting huge and challenging bosses along the way. The game doesn’t have major quest points or way points, though the map does imply where the next destination should be in a vague way at rest spots called Sites of Grace. It’s a world that’s both stunning and terrifying to explore, offering the same kind of fascination as the vast open worlds of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a 2017 action-adventure video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. It is the nineteenth main installment in The Legend of Zelda series and follows an amnesiac Link as he explores Hyrule. This boundary-breaking game allows players to roam free, climb anything, and take in the world like never before. It is a must-have for any gaming enthusiast! It has received many great reviews such as a ten out of ten from Destructoid and a five out of five from Attack of the Fanboy. It also won Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2017.
